Travel Quote of the Week

“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” – Andre Gide

A thrill strums through me when the shore slips away, its last sight on the distant horizon more like a smudge than land. It makes me think of ancient sailors staring at their shores, wondering if they’d ever see it again, perhaps fearing what awaited them on the edges of the great seas. Monsters? Riches? Miracles?

That’s why I love to travel. Because it always surprises me and amazes me and brings me more gifts I value than I’d ever dream possible.

Why do you love to lose sight of the shore?
