All the Fish in the Sea
Or in a river or lake. I am a pesceholic, and I’ve almost never met seafood I didn’t like. Give me a crustacean, bivalve or fins of any kind, and I’m in foodie heaven.
Costa Rica features so many different kinds of seafood, it’s hard to know where to begin (and how to limit this blog length!) Take, for example, the wonder of raw fish as ceviche. Or yellowfin nachos – or octopus grilled and served hot over a cold avocado salad.
Imagine, fresh from the sea to your plate! (Excuse me while I moan for a minute…)
I enjoyed the shrimp on a mountain top, and two plates of seabass under a bed of pickled radishes (the perfect accent) put us in a happy place overlooking the waves at the beach. The grouper came with the perfect amount of steamed vegetables and a light sauce of we-knew-not-what, flavorful and green with fresh herbs.
If you are looking for a destination where you can easily eat seafood every day, visit Costa Rica. The coasts are never far away, even from the most inland areas, the fish is fresh, and the cooks could easily go head to head with chefs around the world – and win!
